Light weight silica brick is insulating refractory product, which takes silica as main raw material and contains at least 91% of SiO2. The bulk density of light weight silica brick is 0.9~1.1g/cm3, its thermal conductivity is only half that of ordinary silica brick, thermal shock resistance of light silica brick is very good, its refractoriness under load beginning temperature can reach to 1600℃, far higher than clay insulating bricks. Working temperature of silica insulating brick can reach to 1550℃, it has the characteristics of no shrinkage at high temperature or even slight expansion.

Light weight silica brick usually adopts crystalline quartz as raw material, combustible materials such as coke, anthracite saw dust, etc are added into the batch material or air foaming method is used to form porous structure. Similar to ordinary silica bricks production craft, some mineralizers( CaO, Fe2O3) are added to contribute to the transformation of quartz, paper pulp is used as binder to make the green brick have certain strength. When coke or anthracite is used as combustion material, ash content can bring in Fe2O3 and Al2O3, so there is no need to add iron phosphate into the batch material. During the sintering of light silica bricks, below 1200℃, strong oxidizing flame should be kept to make the full burning of added materials.
3.The mineral composition of lightweight silica brick: tridymite78~86%. The crushing strength of normal lightweight silica bricks is 2.0~2.95Mpa, thermal conductivity is 0.35~0.42W/(m·K). light silica brick has excellent refractory performance, refractoriness under load temperature reaches to 1620℃,which approaches dense silica bricks, there is only small residual expansion, and its thermal stability is better than dense silica brick. Therefore, if there is no molten slag corrosion, lightweight silica brick can be long term used at 1500~1550℃ high temperature condition.
